What Happens If The 1st On A Saturday?

I've been holding Tailgate Auctions at Weil Antique Center since 2014, and always on the 1st Thursday and the 3rd Thursday, April thru November weather permitting. It seemed a fairly simple schedule when I started. "After a few months", I thought, "people will easily remember".
I've gotten more than one phone call that goes something like this;

Caller, "I saw on (your website /your facebook page) that you have these tailgate auctions. When do you have those?".
Me, "They are held on the 1st Thursday and the 3rd Thursday every month between April and November, weather permitting".
Caller, "Okay, great. I'll come to the first one next month... hey, wait. Next month the 1st is on a Saturday, what happens then?"
From here it generally evolves into an Abbott & Costello type skit.
"But it's on the first Thursday"
  "Yeah, but the first is a Saturday"
"Thursday the 6th, it's always on a Thursday"
  "So it's not really on the first? Why did you tell me it was on the first?"

I don't think there's a person alive who has not been confused like this. I sure have! Just about every time we become confused it's because we didn't really listen. Yes, we hear key words like, "first", "every month" but we miss some of the detail and those missing details are important!

As an auctioneer, it's important that I listen to you, my consignors. I want, and need, to listen to your story. What are you going through? Why are you selling these items? When do you need the work done? These question, and more, are needed in order to help me formulate solutions to help your situation.
Do you need an auction as soon as possible? Maybe we can have an auction right on the property where the goods now are.
Do you need the property cleaned out quickly. Perhaps we can come in and remove the goods going to auction and simply clean out the remainder of the property to make it presentable.
Maybe you just have a few pieces to move on.
You would like to have a garage sale but your H.O.A. won't permit it? We have Tailgate Auctions for that.
Do you want downsize, selling some things but keeping others?
Call me. I'll listen. 484.886.2811

While we specialize in on-site and estate auctions, we are always seeking smaller consignments as well as commercial liquidations.
